I was fortunate enough to play (trumpet) in Herb's Recording Band for a couple of years in the late 70's. Even luckier to do gigs around town with the Ted Herbert Orchestra, with Herb on one side of me, and Wes Hensel on the other. What an unbelievable education that was. Herb was always a wonderful gentleman. It goes without saying that he was a terrific trumpet player, a real genius with the plunger mute! I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. The music world has lost a legend.
